Batik Painting Exhibition in Poland BBJ

Batik Painting Exhibition in Poland BBJ

Not only the traditional art of batik in Indonesia or the developing countries of Asia, but also in Poland. Perhaps the reality is somewhat surprising because the traditional art of batik, which is a hereditary developed in Indonesia, was also done by students from the Cultural Center of Slupsk, Poland, with similar patterns and methods as is done in Indonesia. Their work will be exhibited at Bentara Budaya Jakarta (BBJ), South Palmerah Road 17, January 31-February 5, 2003. The exhibition displays 34 paintings batik Poland will be opened this evening by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Jakarta, Krzysztof Szumski.

Batik painting by Polish artist who was about 9 years to 24 years, at first glance similar to batik painting, Water Castle in Yogyakarta. This is understandable as the batik technique in the world using the same methods and techniques, both chemically as well as the use of different colors with wax closure technique terraced. Only, that sets it apart is the selection of the theme of identity in terms of painting works.

When examined, some works show familiar themes as the theme of Yogyakarta Palace, pedicabs as a unique vehicle in Indonesia, mosque, temple of Borobudur, Balinese dancers, carrion flower, until the dinosaur statues in Joyful Loka Zoo at Yogyakarta. However, there is also a theme that is set in Europe, such as horse-drawn sleigh in a sea of snow, the old building typical of Europe, and the like.

How they got the idea with the themes of the Indonesian special? Did they at one time had been to Indonesia? According to Natalia Sintadewi, Polish Embassy staff in Jakarta, they paint the themes set in Indonesia was inspired by the pictures in books on Indonesia, or from the postcards, which they describe on the fabric with batik techniques. That is, not all painters have come to Indonesia, they create based on imagination and fantasy through the reproduction of images. When you do not see the names of the painter, we would probably be fooled that these batik paintings done by artists from Poland.
