Note JFFF 2008 (1): Time to Get Up Mode Indonesia

Note JFFF 2008 (1): Time to Get Up Mode Indonesia

For the fifth time, Jakarta Fashion & Food Festival (JFFF) held in Summarecon Kelapa Gading area, an area that was built by the developer group PT Summarecon Agung Tbk in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. The event was first held in 2004, it is a joint activity between the Group Summarecon the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Department of Tourism.

Like previous years, the event which this time was held from 15 until May 25, 2008, was also supported by the Association of Fashion Designers & Entrepreneurs Indonesia (APPMI), Group Martha Tilaar, Group MRA Media, among others, have products magazine Harper's Bazaar Indonesia, Cosmopolitan , and 87.6 FM radio Hardrock, ESMOD fashion school in Jakarta, as well as television station Metro TV.

The presence of the supporters who have for years come JFFF success, at least show them the role that made the show which is now into Jakarta's tourism calendar, remain in existence until now. The event itself, as stated by the Director of PT Summarecon Agung Tbk, Liliawati Rahardjo, organized with a mission to promote Jakarta as a shopping destination that is not less attractive compared to other major cities in Asia.

"We're very confident, fashion and culinary diversity of the archipelago is a tremendous asset that if properly managed will be able to compete in international markets," said Liliawati Rahardjo at the official opening ceremony JFFF 2008 that was held at Balai Samudra, Kelapa Gading, Friday (16 / 5 ) night.

In the opening event was also attended by Governor Fauzi Bowo and wife, and numerous public figures in Jakarta. At the time, delivered also award a Fashion Icon Award to three leaders of many related to the world of fashion and beauty. They are Eduard Hutabarat, Poppy Dharsono, and Kris Kristofferson.

Batik Trends

From among the three recipients of the award, Eduard familiar Hutabarat called Edo, regarded as the person who contributed to reintroduce the use of batik cotton as everyday clothing, including work on offices and other casual apparel.

Currently, efforts began to materialize Edo with the revival of batik became a trend everywhere. Look at office buildings, shopping centers, seminar rooms, classrooms, and almost on every corner - at least in the Greater Jakarta area - batik users more visible every day.

When first batik used only on formal occasions or when there is a ceremony only, the batik is now the subject of fashion for various activities. Batik sellers are also scattered in almost every place in Jakarta. If you had to buy batik to go to shops that specialized in batik clothing made from various Indonesian traditional cloth, now the batiks can be easily seen from the small stores, shopping centers such as trade center, to the luxurious malls in Jakarta .

APPMI as an association which is responsible for the designers and fashion entrepreneurs in Indonesia, is also trying to popularize penah batik fashion show by APPMI members from various regions to be held in Jakarta in 2006. But of course, the traditional fabric of Indonesia are not only batik. A year after that, in the annual demonstration APPMI in 2007, the designers were showing different associations of woven fabric from the loom not a machine, which is processed into various forms of clothing.

According to the Advisory APPMI, Moses Widyatmodjo, it always encourages its members to develop the association of local culture. For example, using the local traditional cloths to be used as the main ingredient of their clothing designs.

An effort is laudable, of course, because instead of traditional cloth or any use of local traditional motifs, can be characteristic of a fashion designer. If you make a V-necked dresses, for example, the shape may be almost the same between one and the other designers - including among designers in the country with foreign designers - then the difference is the use of cloth or traditional motifs, which may be elements that detail the amplifier design of clothing.

"The Catwalk"

Another thing that should be presented here, along with an event-filled JFFF 2008 fashion show from designers in the country and to each of two designers from Hong Kong, and Thailand almost every day, well established location, named "The Catwalk" in Mal Kelapa Gading coincide with National Awakening Day May 20, 2008. Location is where the boutiques that display the work of Indonesian fashion designers.

Actually "The Catwalk" has been established since several years ago, but now the place was transferred to a larger area and more modern. Inauguration of that location on May 20, 2008, indirectly implying the desire of the Indonesian fashion designers in order to rise.

Surely not just be a "host home" in his own country to face invasion of foreign fashion works, but can also compete in the international fashion stage. When the fashion designer from Japan, Hong Kong, and several other countries in Asia, his work was widely known, seems not just a dream to expect from hundreds or even thousands of Indonesian fashion designers - whether just starting out, try a small, until the leading fashion designers - there will also be recognized in foreign countries and be able to "penetrate" the world's fashion centers like Paris, London, Milan and New York.

It's not as easy as one might imagine. However, with the cooperation and synergy of the parties with an interest in Indonesian fashion world, it's not impossible to be realized. One way, as said General Chairman APPMI, Taruna K Kusmayadi, who said that events such as JFFF can become a food fashion week and the weeks that follow international standards. It also adds a fashion designer, she megharapkan to JFFF, "Can invite to International buyers, so it can more prosperous Indonesian community in various sectors."

To Look For

Making JFFF follow international standards, of course, also be considered correct by the fashion designer. In addition to showing the works nice and charming, the products must also appear as perfect as possible. Never again have threads coming out of the fabric due to bad tailoring, or clothing as they may appear slightly wrinkled ironed somewhat hasty and poorly placed before worn by the mannequin.

In addition, the schedule must also be cultivated as precisely as possible. Never again have to write an invitation that the event started at 19:00, but in fact just started nearly an hour later. The invitation should also suggested to be more orderly manner, so that there is no time passing fashion show took place, thus disturbing the proceedings.

Venue for any photographer should be sought adequate, so that the photographers did not push so close. On the other hand, photographers should also be applicable rules. There must be no shooting at the front and disturbing view event invitations fashion show, while the other photographers took pictures from behind, in a place that was reserved for photographers.

So clearly, if all agree and want to see Indonesian fashion to get up, all parties must also seeks to help create a better atmosphere modes. Starting from raw material supply that is easy and affordable, the ability of workers mode that continuously refined and improved, consumer behavior that are expected to prefer the domestic product, up to a fun fashion show for all parties.

Arise, Indonesian fashion world.
