Government eye on imported batik trade

Jakarta - SURYA-Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu
said it will continue to oversee the entry of imported batik (batik patterned textiles) to protect copyright and batik products market in the country and abroad. "The government will continue to oversee foreign batik products to enhance the protection of copyright and Indonesian batik products market, either domestically and abroad, "Minister Pangestu said on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Central City Batik Nusantara in Thamrin, Jakarta, Thursday.

The Minister said that exports will increase as batik growing popularity of batik for the people of Indonesia and abroad. "Batik can be used to lift the 'brand image' Batik Indonesia.B already very well known in Africa after Nelson Mandela was introduced batik. Export will continue increasing but certainly the biggest market is in the country, "he said.

Indonesia to several countries in the world in the period 2004-2008 shows a positive trend in 2005 despite the decline. Year 2004 exports reached a value of batik 34.2 million U.S. dollars
decreased to 12.43 million U.S. dollars in 2005. Exports rose batik back in 2006 to 14.26 million U.S. dollars, to 20.87 million U.S. dollars in 2007 and a 32.27 million U.S. dollars in 2008.

Actual kepsor batik during the period from January to November 2009 reached 17.35 million U.S. dollar value. Indonesian batik export destination countries include the United States, Belgium, France, England and Germany. ant
